Next Boracay - Sulu Island

Sulu Island Western Visayas Philippines Sulu is an island province of the Philippines located in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM).

Sulu Province is one of the many white sands beach in Philippines. Sulu is embarking on an ambitious tourism program that will make it like world-famous resorts similar to Phuket in Thailand.

Sulu archipelago is commonly referred to as the backdoor of the Philippines. But actually, the Sulu archipelago is the only exception to the isolation the Philippines has because it is an island country surrounded by the open seas.

Getting to Sulu Island Mindanao Philippines

Sea Transportation
Ships of the SKT Magnolia Company and the Sampaguita Company ply the route from Zamboanga to Jolo, Siasi, Bongao and Sitangkai daily, but there is a lot of leeway in the time table as they not only transport passengers but also a lot of cargo; they depart from Zamboanga or any other port they call on only after the unloading and loading of cargo which is done manually.

The ships of SKT are much bigger than those of Sampaguita, but just the same they seem in general to be overloaded with passengers. Comfort rooms are not comfortable on the ships of either company. If everything goes smoothly, the trip between Zamboanga and Jolo takes 12 hours, between Zamboanga and Bongao 36 hours, and between Zamboanga and Sitangkai 44 hours. Most ships make a stop-over at Siasi, about half way between Jolo and Bongao.

There are about five connections daily between Zamboanga and Isabela on Basilan, as well as at least one between Zamboanga and Lamitan. The crossing takes about 1.5 hrs.
Tawi-Tawi is very close to Borneo, and if geography were the only concern, it would be nice and easy to travel from the Philippines to Malaysia and Indonesia.

Air Flights Transportation
Philippine Airlines has two flights a day between Jolo and Zamboanga, one in the morning and one in the afternoon; there is also one daily flight connection between Bongao and Zamboanga.
